I stayed here last November. I had a wonderful stay. I awoke to the sound of a Cockerell crowing every morning. I would pad out barefoot to the gate to pick up my cake a croissant and fresh bread left by the Baker early in the morning. The mountain outside my window swathed in mist. In such royal majestic nature provides a special opportunity to tune in to ones own beautiful nature, relax and enjoy. The house is lovely, there is an honesty beer fridge. The house keeper is a fabulous lady, we did not speak in the same language but had great fun communicating without words, and definitely made great friends during the course of my stay. I can recommend 100% and very much hope to return, next time to enjoy some surf lessons if I'm lucky enough :) ~ J P

kleineres, aber super eingerichtetes Zimmer mit frisch renoviertem Bad und kleiner Küche im Vorraum, die man mit benutzen darf. Frühstück war Top von der Auswahl und der Frische der Zutaten. Beim gemeinsamen Frühstück mit den anderen Gästen, konnte man sich auch super über die verschiedenen Ausflugsziele austauschen. ~ Martin S

We had a wonderful stay at the North Coast Guest House! The property is paradise like (especially the place with the hammock - great for a good read and relaxing), the house beautiful (very thoughtful decorated, good equipped kitchen, honest bar and the possibility for doing your laundry if needed) and the owners friendly, courteous and charming (awesome recommendations for eating out). The room was clean, cosy and had an astonishing view on the mountains. Breakfast was a continental, very tasty and served in a welcoming community room. Ruben even offers surf lessons (!), which my husband enjoyed very much. He explained all the basics well, was attentive and made it a fun experience! We highly recommend this little gem! We didn't miss anything. We are already thinking of coming back. Loved it. ~ Melanie P

Madeira was, for us, an underestimated surf spot. We wanted to have a less crowded area than Funchal. We definitly found this at Sao Vicente. Also the nature more tropical than the south of the island. About the surf lodge; Its situated over three beautiful houses, with a beautiful garden, with a breathtaking view over the valley and Sao Vicente. The accomodation has everything you need. From dormroom to single/twin bedroom with private bathroom. Breakfast is provided by the lodge. The owners are a lovely, care taking couple. The husband is the surfcoach. In my opinion the best coach i had since my 2 years of surfing. He keeps an eye out for everyones safety and personal learning curve. Tips are always practical. During the lessons, video's will be made for immediate improvement. Definitly a place where love to come back to! ~ Sjoppi B

Ein so schöner Ort auf der Erde! Ich habe ein Paket gebucht: Die Surfe Lodge und den Surf Kurs. Das war die beste Entscheidung! Die Surfe Lodge hat einen so schönen Garten und es ist so schön ruhig. Philipa, die Reinigungskraft ist so so lieb und alle die dort arbeiten, geben Tipps und sind so freundlich und lieb. Ich war sicherlich nicht das letzte Mal dort. Einer meiner schönsten Urlaube. Wunderschön! Habe mich selten in einer Unterkunft so wohl gefühlt wie dort! Tolles Ambiente, schöne und sehr saubere Zimmer, wunderschöner Garten mit schöner Aussicht, gutes Frühstück und sehr nette Leute (Inhaber, Personal und Gäste). Auch der Self-Check-In hat super geklappt. Wir möchten auf jeden Fall wieder kommen! 😍 ~ Cressida K

Super miejscówka, fajnie oddaje klimat wyspy. Widok z tarasu jest unikatowy przy kawie o poranku bądź wieczorem. Właściciele zrobili dobrą robotę i wszystko jest zadbane i ogarnięte jak się da. Lokalizacja, widoki, zaplecze, klimat wszystko na 5. Polecam jak ktoś chce dobrze odpocząć 🙂 ~ Radoslaw I

Andreia and Ruben built a little paradise in Sao Vicente. You can feel their passion in every detail of the house. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Maybe you will get visited by a little cat, which is strolling around the house. The beautiful garden is the best place to relax after a long surf session or a long hike. We felt very welcome and the communication with the hosts was uncomplicated and you could always count on a quick response also when they weren't around the house. The breakfast was just perfect to get enough energy for the day. So you got bread, grains, local pastries and fruits. We enjoyed every second in the house. We were very happy with our stay at Madeira Surf Lodge. The room had a decent size and was clean and cozy and we had our own balcony facing towards the garden. - Breakfast could be taken outside in their fantastic tropical garden with view onto the sea and surrounding mountains, which we enjoyed very much. And the staff was very friendly as well. Only 4 stars for location, since you need a car to get here, since it is a bit outside the centre of Sao Vincente and the road there (as normal on Madeira) would be a quite steep hike. However, since most probable move around the Island with a rental car, this is and was no issue for us. ~ Thorsten J

Such a beautiful place to stay—we felt completely at ease from the moment we arrived. Even while exploring and going on various trips, we often found ourselves wanting to return to Madeira Surf Lodge just to relax and soak in the peaceful vibe. The mountains, vibrant flowers, and lush greenery created the perfect setting to unwind and fall in love with the surroundings. Breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious, and the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. I wholeheartedly recommend this place. Plus, it’s conveniently close to the São Vicente town center. ~ Nutza H

Un posto dove restare e dove tornare. I proprietari sono di una disponibilità e gentilezza squisite. Arredato con cura, ha un bel giardino con vista sul mare e sulle montagne. La colazione a buffet è ricca, e la pulizia della struttura eccellente. Assolutamente consigliato ~ Raffaella D

Die schönste Unterkunft unseres Urlaubs! Ein Unikat mit tollem Ausblick und ruhiger Lage, dennoch in 10 min Fußweg unten im Zentrum S. Vincentes. Eine tolle Unterkunft mit liebevollen Details im Zimmer und im Garten! Hier fühlt man sich direkt wohl! ~ Torben B

I booked a week there with my girlfriend. We had 5 surf lessons and two pillates lessons. The surf lessons we're especially fun and we learned a lot, Philippe and Ruben were amazing. It was our first time surfing but definitely not the last. The pillates with Andreia was also very fun and good for the tired body from surfing. The lodge is nicely located on the hill side with a beautiful garden. There was a provided breakfast, a kitchen to use and some beer, drinks, wine which could be purchased. It really is like a hostel and you get to know other guests fast. The rooms were kept simple but everything needed was there and clean. If you want an all inclusive hotel with daily room cleanings and anonymity then this is not the right accomodation for you. But if you look for a really nice, clean and friendly hostel this is the place to be! Especially if you want to (learn to) surf. Thanks for the amazing stay Andreia and Ruben, we enjoyed it a lot! Ich kann das Guest House sehr empfehlen. Der self check-in hat super geklappt. Wir hatten Apartment B im Hauptgebäude. Ein sehr geräumiges Zimmer mit neuem Bad. Die Lage ist traumhaft, super ruhig und die Gastgeber sind sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich. ~ Jens R

I’ve stayed in my fair share of surf lodges and hostels, but nothing compares to Madeira Surf Lodge. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I was walking into a little hidden paradise. The staff are truly incredible—and I also decided to take surf lessons through the lodge! Whether you’re a total beginner or already confident in the water, the instructors meet you where you’re at and make you feel supported the whole way. The rooms are clean, and cozy with super comfy beds (which matters after a full surf day!) and hot showers. And the breakfast buffet is unreal. Fresh fruit, eggs, bread, cakes, and always more than enough to fuel you for a day of surfing. One of my favorite parts was the balance of social energy and peace—it’s easy to meet new people at the communal breakfast, but also so easy to just relax alone with a book on the patio. Whether you’re coming solo, with friends, or a partner, this place gives you space to just be. I extended my stay… and if I could, I’d stay forever! Thank you Ruben! ~ Talia S

Our trip got cut short so we could only stay one night instead of three, but Rúben was incredibly kind about it. He even offered a refund for the nights we missed and said we could come back another time to use them and do some surfing. We didn’t take the refund since it was our own fault, but the gesture was really appreciated. The place itself is great — comfy beds, great shower, and a fully equipped kitchen. Everything you’d want. We’ll definitely be back for a proper stay next time! ~ Patrick D

We stayed for three nights at the Madeira Surf Lodge. Upon arrival at the lodge we were captivated by the beautiful scenery. The room was spotless & bed extremely comfortable. We had a shared kitchen with a stove and fridge. There were wine glasses, dishes, plates, cutlery and cooking pans. There was a good assortment of breakfast items every morning and the coffee was great. Unfortunately, our trip was too short and packed with activities which left us no time to use the hot tub which was in a beautiful setting (next trip will have to be longer). We did not rent a car but it was a scenic/enjoyable walk down the hill to the grocery store and the bus stop. The staff couldn't have been any nicer and that made our stay even more special; Filipa is AWESOME and was helpful beyond expectation. Elle and Rueben were amazing too! It felt like home away from home!!! We enjoyed our stay at the lodge and would love to return soon and not only because Madeira is stunningly beautiful but also because the staff were absolutely amazing. This is a magic place to spend your holiday on Madeira. It has the best terrace of the area with a beautiful sea view! We stayed 7 days en surfed and/or hiked every day. In Sao Vincente there are great local restaurants and it is a great base to go around the island by car. The owners are very kind and helped us to get around. The north is the most beautiful part of the island, more rustic and green. Super chill vibe, will visit again when I get the chance. ~ Nina V

Großartige Unterkunft mit wirklich super schöner Lage. Wir waren wirklich begeistert. Das Frühstück ist auch spitze und der Self Checkin funktioniert ohne Probleme. Wir würden sofort wieder kommen. ~ LiMa

We stayed 4 nights in São Vicente and absolutely loved it! The location is surrounded by lush greenery, colorful flowers, and beautiful views of the hills and nature all around. We had a double room with a spacious bathroom and shared a kitchen with another couple. The breakfast was varied and could be enjoyed on the terrace as well. Everything was perfect and we truly appreciated our stay. A big thank you to our lovely hosts – until next time! ~ Paula M
